Sports Minister briefed by BCCSL

The Hon. Minister Mangala Samaraweera, MP, Deputy General Minister of
Development. Public Utilities, Housing and Sports visited the Headquarters
of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on Tuesday 25th September
and received a comprehensive briefing on activities and issues of the Board.
He was met by the Chairman of the Interim Committee Mr. Vijaya Malalasekera,
other members of the Interim Committee, chairmen of the various sub
committees and division heads of the BCCSL.
An extensive presentation was made by the Deputy Minister which detailed
many aspects of the BCCSL's functions, including the organizational
structure of the Board activities of the many committees, marketing and
sponsorships, finances and organizing of tours.
The BCCSL's role in national development of cricket at schools, clubs,
district and provincial levels was also extensively explained. Cricket
operations such as coaching, national squads and junior squads were also
touched upon broadly.
Issues such as the Dambulla Stadium, international television contracts and
legal proceedings in progress were also discussed.
The Deputy Minister addressed the gathering and said that he looked forward
to working with the governing bodies of sports, which he has already found
to be a very challenging assignment, noting that he has already learned a
lot about these area's since he took office.
