Meet Senator Haynes Staff Reporter - 27 September 2001
Legendary West Indies opener Desmond Haynes has taken on a new role, that of a senator in the Barbados parliament. He was sworn in on Tuesday. The man who along with Gordon Greenidge formed one of the greatest opening pairs, was previously the chairman of the Barbados Cricket Association's senior selection panel for the last two years. Haynes is not the first West Indies cricketer to take to politics. Former West Indies fast bowling great Wes Hall and daredevil opening batsman Roy Fredricks have both served as ministers in Barbados and Guyana respectively. Haynes then might be hoping to tread in Hall's footsteps and become a minister in the years to come. © CricInfo
