As crowds invaded the pitch and stood in front of the Colin Atkinson Pavilion cheering their heroes, who had just won their final Norwich Union League match of the season, Somerset Chief Executive Peter Anderson told me, "The last day of the Norwich Union League has been a tribute to the three up three down system. All of the games that were played today were in the balance for much of the time, and from being in the spectre of relegation we have ended in fourth place in the table."
The Chief executive went on," We have won the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy, which is the F.A.Cup of cricket, finished second in the top division of The County Championship, and fourth in the First Division of the Norwich Union National League, it's the best ever season for Somerset."
Former Somerset coach Dermot Reeve was also delighted with Somerset's success this season and as he sat looking out at the crowds on the pitch below told me, "I sit back and give all the credit to Jamie Cox and Kevin Shine, but I also take a little satisfaction from the fact that I chose Cox and Shine to come to Somerset in the first place."
