Leicestershire Foxes stay in hunt Neville Foulger - 5 September 2001
Leicestershire Foxes are still in prime position to win the Norwich Union League despite having their floodlit match against Warwickshire Bears abandoned because of rain at Grace Road. Only 3.5 overs were bowled during which time the Foxes lost two wickets for nine runs. Then the rain began and the match was eventually called off with the outfield saturated. But the two points they picked up means that the Foxes are now four points clear of Kent with one game to play against Nottinghamshire a week on Sunday. If they win that they will be champions, even if Kent win their last two matches. The title is decided on the number of wins, and Leicestershire currently have 11 against Kent's nine. The Foxes could even win the title this Sunday – if Kent lose to Northants. The two men out in the brief session of cricket were Trevor Ward and Shahid Afridi. It was the young Pakistan player's farewell appearance for Leicestershire – for this season at least. He returns to Pakistan this week to play in an international tournament. © CricInfo Ltd.
