Gunnersbury WCC beat North Riding WCC in Women's Premier League Final ECB Media Release - 3 September 2001
Gunnersbury WCC from Middlesex beat their Yorkshire based rivals North Riding WCC by 28 runs in the ECB Premier League Final on Saturday 1st September, at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes. North Riding won the toss and put Gunnersbury into bat, who scored 166 for 6 from their 50 overs. Melissa Reynard, the North Riding and Yorkshire Captain, looking to re-establish her England place, took 2 wickets for 15 runs in her 8 overs; then scored 30 in the North Riding innings. Gunnersbury started slowly, losing their first wicket with the score on just 24 in the 14th over, but Debbie Stock considerably raised the tempo scoring 58 from 64 balls before being dismissed by Whisker in the 49th over. Gunnersbury raced from 95 to 166 in their final 10 overs having seen off the pick of the North Riding bowlers. North Riding finally finished on 138 for 9 from their 50 overs, with England U-19 player Laura Spragg top scoring with 32. Gunnersbury bowled tightly, and North Riding too began cautiously as England U-19 Captain Arran Thompson was the first victim of Raddi Nanalal's accurate and varied spin with the score on just 12. Gunnersbury Captain Cathy Mowat took 3 for 38, well supported by Nanalal and Hendley who took two wickets each. Campbell Park will host the ECB Women's Knockout Cup Final next Saturday, 8th September, between Brighton & Hove LCC and Wakefied WCC. The Final will see England's Captain, Clare Connor play against her vice-captain, Wakefield's Clare Taylor. © England & Wales Cricket Board
