As he clutched the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy at Lord's, Somerset Chief Executive Peter Anderson said: "What a wonderful day for the players. Today was their day.

"Everyone at the club has had to wait 18 years for this day and this has been a wonderful occasion for our loyal supporters."

He went on: "Everybody is very chuffed," but warned, "there is still a lot of the season to go and we still have some important matches to play. We need to get back on track ready for the Norwich Union National League game on Monday against Warwickshire."
