The willow dominates on Day Three
Staff Reporter - 23 October 2001

Day Three of the Central Zone Ranji trophy matches saw the batsmen flourish at both Delhi and Jaipur, as three hundreds were crafted, giving their respective sides a definitive hand up.

Rajasthan's openers, unbeaten overnight, were separated after adding only 14 runs, with Vineet Saxena departing for 66.Gagan Khoda, however, went on to complete his century; batting first with Rahul Kanwat (48) and then with Nikhil Doru. Khoda was removed after scoring 167, with 17 fours and a six, with Rajasthan's score on 314.

Doru and captain Pudiyangum Krishnakumar then demoralised the Vidarbha bowlers further, putting together a 219-run partnership. Doru remained unbeaten on 124 at the close of play; his captain, though, became Pritam Gandhe's third wicket when he fell for 93. The home side resumes on Day Four in a commanding position of 533/4.

In Delhi, it was the visitors who gained the upper hand. Yere Goud, unbeaten overnight on 92, went on to complete a massive century, falling short of the 200 mark by just 10 runs. His effort can be seen in revealing light when it is considered that the next highest individual score was Amit Pagnis' 28. Goud hit 16 fours and four sixes; batting with the tail, he farmed the strike carefully and structured significant partnerships with each of the tailenders. Goud's score formed more than half of Railways' final total of 356.

The visitors then consolidated their position by striking thrice, leaving Uttar Pradesh reeling at 11/3. Rizwan Shamshad and Manoj Mudhal were batting at the close of play, with the score on 38. Railways bowler Zakir Hussain was the main destroyer, turning in an incisive opening spell of 6-1-11-2.
