New Zealand's bowlers took more heavy punishment from the ACT President's XI today, leaving the tourists with little to gain from the three-day game but batting practice of their own.

At lunch on day two, the ACT side was 5-408 in its first innings.

Overnight century-maker Jack Smith added 11 more runs before being dismissed for 156 but the morning's limelight belonged to New South Wales conscript Grant Lambert who clobbered the bowling for a century.

Lambert took particularly to the Kiwis' Test pace star Chris Cairns and cut, drove and pulled his way to 101 runs, including 15 boundaries and one six off 145 balls.

Cairns was inaccurate and too short outside the off stump and had the figures of 1-115 when taken out of the attack.

Spinner Glen Sulzberger was the other century-maker, with the figures of 2-115 at lunch, having picked up the two wickets to fall today.

Despite an obviously flat batting pitch, the Kiwi attack looked innocuous against batsmen who have not played first class cricket.

They badly missed leading spinner Daniel Vettori who injured an ankle yesterday. Sean Maxwell (27) and Anthony Clark (3) were the not out batsmen.
