A fine 196-ball hundred by S. Sriram helped India to 261 for five wickets on the first day of the four day match Gopalan Trophy Match at the Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Friday.
CDCA played three fast bowlers in the four-day match, but the five wickets to fall were captured by spinners with skipper Thilan Samaraweera and all rounder Upul Chandana picking up two apiece.
Opener S. Suresh was run out earlier in the day for 15 with the score on 39. After the early dismissal of Suresh, Hemanth Kumar and S. Sriram put on a 111 run partnership for the second wicket before skipper Thilan Samaraweera picked up the wicket of Hemanth Kumar for 59 off 157 balls with eight fours.
Chandana then struck when he clean bowled centurion Sriram with the batsman exactly on 100. He accumulated most of his runs thorough ones and twos and with just five boundaries.
J. Madanagopal who had a good one-day series with the bat chipped in with 43 before Chandana accounted for his wicket.
Just before the close of play the home team lost the wicket of M. Shrinivas, who was clean bowled for a duck by skipper Samaraweera.
At the crease were skipper Robin Singh on 11 and S. Sharath on 17. Rangana Herath toiled for 19 overs without any success.
