Australian Cricket Board - 11 October 2001

Australian captain, Steve Waugh has been given medical clearance to resume full training ahead of the First Orange Test against New Zealand, following a condition diagnosed as Deep Vein Thrombosis.

Waugh, who has been consulting with a vascular physician in Sydney will require no further treatment, and will begin net sessions next week.

Australian Cricket Board physiotherapist, Errol Alcott said Waugh had responded well to treatment and should be available for selection for the First Orange Test in Brisbane beginning on Thursday 8 November.

"Steve has undergone the necessary treatment to return to full fitness, and I am pleased to say that his prognosis is very good.

"There is no further management of the condition required and he will begin full training in the nets next week," Alcott said.

It is anticipated that before Waugh is declared fit for the First Orange Test, he will play for New South Wales in the Pura Cup match against South Australia at the SCG beginning on Friday 26 October.
