Gilchrist launches journey into cyberspace John Polack - 8 October 2001
From very early in his career, Australian vice-captain Adam Gilchrist has appeared to be fast-tracking toward success. Records have tumbled; he has been a member of some of the greatest teams in cricketing history; and spectators the world over have clamoured to catch a first-hand glimpse of his exciting approach to the game. His road to the top has delivered quite a ride. Now it seems that not even the information superhighway can contain his talents. In his few spare moments between Australia's recently-concluded Ashes tour of England and the start of the country's new domestic season, Gilchrist has still been busy. Seamlessly, his helmet has been swapped for hardware, his bat for bytes, and his pads for pixels. The result: a foray into the world of the Internet and the creation, in association with production company Eduka, of a website dedicated to the 29-year old Western Australian and Australian star. www.adamgilchrist.com - to be launched tomorrow in Perth - delivers a mixture of static and interactive features that relate to Gilchrist's life on and off the field. As well as covering a range of details about his career, the site also comes complete with a chat room into which he'll be delving regularly to communicate with cricket lovers throughout the world. In short, it's all aimed at providing the Australian wicketkeeper's legion of fans with the latest and most comprehensive information about him both personally and professionally. "The web site provides a perfect opportunity for me to update supporters not only with personal and cricketing news concerning Australian cricket but also to have regular chats with cricket fans about the game and the characters that play it," says Gilchrist himself. "I am very excited about the prospect of being able to chat with cricket lovers and supporters both in Australia and throughout the world." The launch of adamgilchrist.com will take place at 11:30am Western Australian Time (0330 GMT) on Tuesday. To mark the occasion, Gilchrist will be metaphorically opening the door to its chat room between 11:30am and 12:15pm Western Australian Time (0330 - 0415 GMT) for direct interaction with his fans. © 2001 CricInfo Ltd
