BCCSL clarifies position regarding product sponsors
BCCSL - 22 November 2001
The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka wishes to clarify the position with regard to organizations that have been identified as "Product Sponsors" for the West Indies and Zimbabwe cricket tours of Sri Lanka.
These organizations have secured from the BCCSL, the rights to sell different products at the venues of Tests and one-day-internationals during these tours. These products include clothing, food and beverages of different types. Eight reputed companies have secured rights to sell their products during the West Indies and Zimbabwe tours.
As such, they are not "sponsors" such as the Title Sponsor for the series Janashakthi & National Insurance, and the Team Sponsor Dilmah. It is more correct to describe them as companies that have secured rights to sell products at match venues.
References in the media that Ceylon Tobacco Company has been granted any special status are completely false. Ceylon Tobacco Company has been securing rights to sell products at match venues for many years.
