Lancashire win planning permission for floodlights Media Release - 13 November 2001
Lancashire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Trafford Borough Council has granted planning permission for the installation of permanent floodlights at Old Trafford. The decision was made at a meeting of the Council on the 8th November, although full details of conditions of use have not yet been given to the Club. Chief Executive, Jim Cumbes said "This is fantastic for floodlit cricket as a whole, not just the north west and will help us promote our Day/Night fixtures as an integral part of the game." "It's another first for Old Trafford, being the only international cricket arena in this country to be granted permission for permanent lights. We must now embark upon the difficult task of raising the necessary finance to bring this to fruition." Precise details of the cost of erecting the floodlights have yet to be finalised but the final amount is likely to be between £750,000 and £1 million. © Lancashire CCC
