South Africa humiliate Hong Kong
Santhosh S - 11 November 2001
South Africa, who had already qualified for the Semi Final of the
Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Cricket Sixes 2001, easily got
better of Hong Kong by five wickets at the Kowloon Cricket Club in
Hong Kong, on Sunday.
Hong Kong were asked to bat first and could only muster 58/3 in their
five overs. Skipper Stuart Brew made 32* off 15 balls with the help of
six boundaries. Hussain Butt made 13 off six balls and the rest of the
batting gave a poor display. Alfonso Thomas bowled a superb over
taking two wickets, giving away just four runs.
Set to score 59 runs for their third consecutive win in the
tournament, South Africa got off to a brisk start. Loots Bosman played
yet another explosive knock of 35* off just 7 balls, smashing five
sixes and a four. Crookes (10), skipper for this match, was the only
batsman to be dismissed. Steve Elworthy 10* and Andrew Hall 4* took
South Africa past the target.
