Floodlit Cricket Returns to Formby CC Media Release - 7 November 2001
Lancashire Cricket Board alongside the Sefton Cricket Development Group is staging its second floodlit cricket tournament for local secondary schools on the 12th and 15th November. Inter cricket is the new ECB development game, bridging the gap between softball and hardball cricket and is sponsored by Norwich Union. Throughout the summer, Norwich Union has supported Inter Cricket at summer schools nationwide with the Lancashire Cricket Board staging three across the County. Inter Cricket is the latest all-action cricket game for children. It is simple and fast moving, can be played indoors or outdoors on most surfaces and gives youngsters a chance to play cricket in a fun environment. The tournament at Formby CC runs from 4.30 - 7.30pm on the 12th and 15th November. Lancashire Cricket Board Development Officer, Bobby Denning, commented: "Following on from the success of last years tournament, this year's event has been offered to local schools, in an effort to show that the game can be played anywhere and at any time of the year. This provides a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to be introduced to cricket using the concept of the floodlit format, whilst developing their skills playing a shorter version of the game. "The tournament compliments the achievements of the Sefton Cricket Development Group. We have now established a Sefton Under 15 squad that is due to start its winter training programme in the New Year. This tournament, alongside everything else that is taking place in the borough, is geared towards developing young players from the playground to the test arena." "I am looking forward to seeing some promising young players on display and progressing into our District squad programme." © Lancashire CCC
