Canterbury Cricket Association - 28 November 2001
The State Canterbury Magicians final squad of 13 players has been selected to contest in the 2001/02 State League.
Paula Flannery (captain)
Haidee Tiffen (vice-captain)
Nicola Payne
Fiona Fraser
Sarah Burke
Emily Travers
Maria Fahey
Beth McNeill
Jo Strachan
Hannah Rae
Helen Daly
Selena Charteris
Delwyn Brownlee
Coach: Vicki Burtt
Manager: Kay Gilray
The features of the team include recalls to former New Zealand player Helen Daly (nee Bastion) and former New Zealand 'A' player Delwyn Brownlee. Both players have earned their recall through a run of strong performances in club cricket over the first two months of the season. The only other new player in the squad is Beth McNeill, who has spent the last two seasons playing for Otago through the draft and the Canterbury Under-21 team. McNeill brings to the side youthful enthusiasm. Also in the squad is CLEAR White Fern Emily Travers, who is new to the province.
Coach Vicki Burtt said of the squad that, "competition for the final places in the squad has been fierce and it is a shame we have had to drop off some high quality players. But now the team has been finailsed we can now complete focus on training hard for the upcoming State League starting on the 5th of January."
