Ganguly retained captain for England series Staff Reporter - 27 November 2001
The Indian selectors have decided to retain Sourav Ganguly as the captain of the Indian squad for the upcoming Test and one-day series against England. Chairman of selectors, Chandu Borde, who made the announcement at Jaipur, said that the 14-member squad for the first Test between the two sides due to start at Mohali on December 3 will be named on Wednesday. The decision to retain Ganguly was made after the selectors were reassured that he would be fit to play in the first Test. Javagal Srinath, who fractured his left hand after he was hit by a fast delivery from Nantie Hayward on the first day at Centurion, though has announced that he will be unavailable for at least the first Test. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag, who is at the centre of the controversy involving the ICC and BCCI, looks likely to be in squad when the five wise men make their decisions on Wednesday. "We shall be picking the squad based on merit," Borde said. © CricInfo
