Three NCA trainees selected for ACA

Last year, three trainees at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore - Sridharam Sriram, Md Kaif and Shiv Sundar Das - were sent to the Australian Cricket Academy in Adelaide to hone their skills. This year, three trainees - Deepak Chowgule, Vinayak Mane and Parthiv Patel - have been selected to go for a six week training programme at the ACA.

The three players, under the aegis of the Gavaskar-Border scholarship were selected during the recent NCA committee meeting at Mumbai. The programme commences on June 3. "The three names were recommended to the committee and were subsequently approved," NCA chief coach Balwinder Singh Sandhu said in Bangalore on Saturday. He said that Arindam Das would also accompany the three trainees to the ACA and his expenses would be borne by the Cricket Association of Bengal.

Indians waste no time, have strenuous workout

Determined to win a series abroad after 15 years, the Indian team started their workout just within hours of their arrival in Harare on Saturday. All the players including captain Sourav Ganguly were seen at the training session. Talking to reporters after the session, Ganguly said "The boys are a little stiff... And we are keen that everyone loosens up in time for the important battle ahead."

Talking about the seamers, he said "They (fast bowlers) are very happy being out of India as the conditions support them," Ganguly said. "They realise these wickets have something for them, there is bounce and movement and they feel good." As far as the batsmen were concerned, Ganguly said "These conditions are different. The grounds are a bit heavy and it will be a strain on the calf muscles. So the earlier we shrug off this stiffness the better. We are sure everyone would be fine in a couple of days."

Uttaranchal police team in Delhi to arrest Prabhakar

A team of Uttaranchal Police has arrived in New Delhi to execute a non-bailable arrest warrant against former Indian all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar in the alleged chit fund scam.

The team on its arrival sought the help of Delhi Police in executing the warrant, police sources said. However, Prabhakar was not arrested till late on Saturday as he was out of town, they said.

Prabhakar, who was named in the CBI's match-fixing report, is facing charges of cheating in two cases in Haldwani district of newly formed Uttaranchal state. When contacted, Prabhakar's wife expressed ignorance about the case and said he was in Jaipur on a business visit.
