PCB Chairman denies accusing players of wrongdoings
Pakistan Cricket Board - 22 May 2001
A section of media had quoted the Chairman as saying in Peshawar on May 18, in an informal chat with media that several players including Wasim Akram have been violating the PCB code of conduct. He had further been quoted as saying that he couldn't take disciplinary action against them because the board had no replacement and he was helpless.
"The PCB neither has any disciplinary problem with the players nor the impression being created that the board was helpless had any credence the Chairman PCB added". He also clarified about his reported remark that he can write a book on each player was distortion as what he actually said was that in his 18 months he had personal evaluation and observation as Chairman PCB about everybody. This was more in the spirit of a senior assessing an ACR* about his juniors and that included all categories from a player to an advisor, for correction purpose.
The Chairman PCB further said that he was convinced that everybody associated with the administration as well as the team was a true Ambassador of the country though as a human being they tend to make mistakes sometimes. He regretted that his remarks at Peshawar were not only misquoted but were distorted resulting in the unnecessary comments and confusion and hoped the media will be little more careful in getting the spirit and content of his remarks correctly in future.
