Zimbabwe will be tough, says Ganguly Staff Reporter - 9 May 2001
Saurav Ganguly does not want to change the batting order for the coming Test series against Zimbabwe. The Indian captain, who is preparing hard for his first acid test away from the country feels that the order should remain the same that had been against Australia. After the first Test against the Aussies, a number of critics had suggested that he move up to number three. Ganguly, however, made it quite clear that he would bat at number five. "The question of removing VVS Laxman from number three does not rise at all after his fabulous showing against the Australians. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have both played very well at number four and six. So I will stick to my position of number five," he said in Kolkata on Tuesday after a workout at the Eden Gardens. The Indian captain was also hopeful that Harbhajan Singh would once more deliver the goods in Zimbabwe. Ganguly is aware that the pitches there would not help the spinners. However, he was quick to add, "Harbhajan is a world class performer and I am sure that he will be successful on any type of wicket." Ganguly will also use himself as a bowler in Zimbabwe. That is why he has been spending an extra half- hour at the nets to sharpen his bowling skills. "As a bowler I can be successful in Zimbabwe," he said optimistically. At the same time, he pointed out that all the games will be tough. "It will not be an easy job for us at Zimbabwe. The opposition has got the ability to provide a very tough contest." Ganguly said he would leave for the conditioning camp at Bangalore on May 12. "There we will work out our strategy as to what sort of bowling attack will play in the matches against Zimbabwe," he said. © CricInfo
