Room at the top for Allan Lamb Northants CCC Media Release - 7 May 2001
Northamptonshire will honour one of their most illustrious former players next Sunday with the naming of the Allan Lamb Room in the club's Indoor Cricket Centre. The former County skipper, who scored more than 20,000 First-class runs for Northamptonshire and represented England in 79 Tests and 122 one-day internationals, will cut the ribbon in the current 'Room 4' before the Norwich Union League match against Gloucestershire on May 13. "Allan's record of achievement for Northamptonshire speaks for itself," said club chairman Simon Schanschieff. "He is one of the greatest players ever to represent the club, a former England captain, and a man instantly recognised throughout the cricketing world. "We felt it was entirely appropriate to commemorate his tremendous contribution to Northamptonshire cricket in a permanent way, and this room in our Indoor Centre will now always bear his name. "All too often people are honoured when they're no longer around. We were keen to do something for Allan while he was still on the scene." The ceremony will take place at 12.30pm. © Northants CCC
