Glamorgan Cricket today announced that they made a trading profit for the financial year ended 30th November 2000 of £82,751. After non-operating income and expenditure is taken into account, principally bank interest, the bottom line produced a loss of £33,280, compared with a profit of £156,993 in 1999/2000.
Glamorgan Chief Executive Mike Fatkin said: "Although we're disappointed to have recorded an overall loss of £33,280, especially in view of the good financial performances we have recorded in recent years, we are delighted to have returned a trading profit of £82,751, which is an increase on the previous year's performance of some 15%. When you consider that the previous year also included some £158,000 in revenue arising from the Cricket and Rugby World Cups there has been a significant improvement in our trading performance in the last year."
Season 2000 has proved a very difficult one indeed for the county game in England and Wales and although this year is expected to be another tough one for the game, the prospect for Glamorgan of staging the Australia/Pakistan one-day international in June, together with a number of new membership and marketing initiatives that have already produced increased membership revenue and a major sponsorship with Brains, gives us good reason to be upbeat. Our Treasurer, Richard Weston, has worked hard to negotiate an improved agreement with the Club's bankers, HSBC, and we are confident that we have the platform in place to be able to look forward with optimism."
