Pennant Cricket Committee hearing outcome
Western Australia Cricket Association - 29 March 2001

The WACA's Pennant Cricket Committee tonight handed down the following penalties after Scarborough Cricket Club representative Tony Weston was found guilty on charges arising from a match on Saturday 3 February 2001.

The outcomes to the three charges are as follows;

  1. Abusing an umpire (suspended for four matches)
  2. Threatening an umpire (suspended for four matches)
  3. Assaulting an umpire (suspended for five years)

These penalties will commence from the start of season 2001-2002 and are cumulative.

There will also be a recommendation from the Pennant Cricket Commttee for the Australian Cricket Board to review Weston's coaching accreditation.

Mr Weston had been suspended for five weeks on a previous occasion for abuse of an umpire.

The reasons for the decision will be distributed to all parties at a later date.

Mr Weston has the right of appeal.
