CLEAR Black Caps to Sharjah New Zealand Cricket - 31 March 2001
The national selection panel of Sir Richard Hadlee (chairman), Brian McKechnie, Ross Dykes and David Trist, has named the following team to contest the Coca-Cola Cup tournament at Sharjah from 8-20 April.
Andre Adams (Auckland) Matthew Bell (Wellington) Grant Bradburn (Northern Districts) James Franklin (Wellington) Chris Harris (Canterbury) Kyle Mills (Auckland) Chris Nevin (k) (Wellington) Jacob Oram (Central Districts) Mathew Sinclair (Central Districts) Daryl Tuffey (Northern Districts) Lou Vincent (Auckland) Brooke Walker (Auckland) It is a debut selection for Auckland all-rounder Kyle Mills. Mills has enjoyed a productive summer of cricket and is selected to bat in the middle order and to bowl his right arm medium-fast. Craig McMillan will captain the side. In consultation with the players and medical staff, New Zealand Cricket did not consider for selection Stephen Fleming, Nathan Astle, Adam Parore and Chris Martin. The panel felt these players would benefit from a rest from the rigours of international cricket. Fleming, Astle and Parore have played continuously for the past six months and the demands of Test cricket have also taken toll on Chris Martin who has lost a significant amount of weight. Roger Twose was also unavailable for selection. Shayne O'Connor and Daniel Vettori were not considered due to injury. The team will leave for Sharjah on Saturday 7 April. © New Zealand Cricket
