New Zealand – Pakistan Test Cricket: Lowest Completed Innings Totals
Arshad Chughtai - 30 March 2001
Pakistan recorded their lowest total in New Zealand on 27th March 2001. The tourists were bundled out for a paltry 104 in the first innings of the in-progress third and final Test Match at Hamilton, on the opening day. The Black Caps had already gained 56 runs lead with all ten wickets intact. Barring cricket's uncertainties and an expected fight back by the visitors, the brilliant performance of New Zealand bowlers has provided their team a golden opportunity to level the current series. Nevertheless, the Pakistanis barely beat their lowest record against New Zealand at Faisalabad in 1990-91. However, on that occasion despite the inauspicious start, Pakistan had recovered to win the Test Match by 65 runs.
Lowest Completed Innings Totals:
In the 42 Test Matches the two teams have played to date, inclusive of the in progress Hamilton Test, the New Zealanders have been dismissed by Pakistan thrice for low innings totals of less than 100 runs, 70 (Dacca, 1955-56), 79 (Rawalpindi, 1964-65), 93 (Hamilton, 1992-93) and on sixteen other occasions for scores of between 100 to 196 runs. On the other hand, Pakistan has a better record in this respect being dismissed by New Zealand nine times for scores between 100 to 200 runs in an innings.
