Most promising young player awards announced Media Release - 30 March 2001
The NBC Denis Compton Awards for the most promising young player at each of the 18 first-class counties have been announced. Previous winners who have gone on to play for England include Marcus Trescothick, Andrew Flintoff, Ashley Giles and Matthew Hoggard. The winners for the 2000 season are: Luke Sutton (Derbyshire), Nicky Peng (Durham), Andrew McGarry (Essex), Michael Powell (Glamorgan), Chris Taylor (Gloucestershire), Chris Tremlett (Hampshire), David Masters (Kent), Chris Schofield (Lancashire), James Ormond (Leicestershire), Edward Joyce (Middlesex), Toby Bailey (Northamptonshire), David Lucas (Nottinghamshire), Peter Trego (Somerset), Michael Carberry (Surrey), Robin Martin-Jenkins (Sussex), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Kabir Ali (Worcestershire), Ryan Sidebottom (Yorkshire). It is the third time in a row that Robin Martin-Jenkins, James Ormond and Chris Schofield, who has played two Tests for England, have won the award at their respective counties. © CricInfo Ltd.
