Hogg breaks Perth first grade batting record
David Bebb - 19 March 2001

Perth 1st grade side Bayswater Morley was spanked out of contention for this season's first grade final single-handedly on the weekend by Western Warrior discard Brad Hogg who belted a record-breaking 285 runs.

It took Hogg 470 minutes from 390 balls with 35 fours (including 2 all-run plus another from overthrows) and 2 sixes to mete out his score in a knock that was described by Willetton club president Ron Kukura as "Chanceless."

WACA statistician Charlie Bull confirmed that Hogg's score beats the previous best mark of 262 (not out) set by Rob Baker in 1996/97.

Hogg was out off the 3rd ball of the final over before lunch on the second day at which time Bayswater Morley realised they would not be able to reach a winning position by stumps and conceded.

Bayswater Morley scorer Peter North described Hogg as "Invincible." North praised the Willetton curator describing the Burrendah pitch prepared as a "Belter."

North said that in order to progress into the semi finals Bayswater Morley needed to get an outright result. When he won the toss Bayswater Morley captain Scott Mason was forced to put Willetton in to bat first.

North says Hogg was "scratchy early but settled and was soon playing confidently to all parts of the ground. He may not look like a class act; he plays the sorts of shots that would get him out in a higher level of cricket. But there is no doubt at this level he is a substantial talent."

Willetton play Wanneroo and Subiaco-Floreat play Scarborough in the semi-finals next weekend.
