Symonds doubtful starter after freak injury

Agence France Presse (AFP) reported on Saturday that the Australian all rounder Andrew Symonds is a doubtful starter for the forthcoming five match India-Australia one day series after injuring his shoulder while packing his bags prior to Saturday's departure.

Speaking to the agency in Brisbane, Symonds said "I was packing and standing on an esky (ice cooler) and getting some stuff from a shelf and the esky slid from underneath me and I fell and took the fall (on the shoulder)." Later on Friday night he woke to a pain in his shoulder which was on Saturday diagnosed as a grade one tear to his joint.

Meanwhile New South Wales fast bowler Nathan Bracken missed the flight to Mumbai on Saturday after losing his travel documents. AFP reported that the officials were unable to get a replacement passport and visa in time for Bracken to catch the flight with one-day teammates, Darren Lehmann, Michael Bevan and Ian Harvey.

VK Ramaswamy and Hariharan for umpires seminar in Islamabad

Veteran international umpire VK Ramaswamy and K Hariharan have been nominated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to attend the umpires' seminar scheduled to be held in Islamabad from March 19 to 26.

Press Trust of India (PTI) reported on Sunday that the seminar which has been organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) would discuss the new laws incorporated into the game and their interpretations among other issues.

The agency also said that as part of the seminar, the ACC has invited two umpires from each of the four Test playing nations of the continent - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
