John Major to open Headingley's £4m West Stand Media Release - 14 March 2001
Headingley's new £4m West Stand, due for completion for this season's international programme, will be officially opened by former Prime Minister John Major on Wednesday 15th August prior to the fourth npower Test Match between England and Australia. This first phase of a larger £10m development incorporates 8,500 seats and will set new standards for the future with excellent sight lines, wider seats and ample legroom. Improved entrances are also included along with modern toilets and refreshment facilities. The impressive frontage to Kirkstall Lane incorporates turnstiles and canopies to provide a refreshing new image for Yorkshire's cricket followers. The second phase of the project will include provision of 36 executive boxes and a members' long room facility on the bowling green and this will commence immediately after the Test Match for completion by April 2001.
