East Christchurch Shirley successfully defended the Christchurch Metropolitan one-day cricket title for the third consecutive year. Playing against top qualifiers Riccarton at Hagley Oval on Sunday, the East Christchurch Shirley were set a target of 181 off the allocated 50 overs. Batting first, the Riccarton top order failed to support Shannon Stewart who scored 83 at number 5, the only real support coming from Wayne Stead (29) and Ian Robertson (26*). In reply East Shirley lost the early wicket of Tony Music, however this brought the eventual match winners together. Brothers Tim (106) and Michael Papps (52) batted for the almost the entire innings to guide Easts to a comprehensive Victory.

Riccarton 180-7 (S. Stewart 83, W. Stead 29no, I. Robinson 26no; C. Anderson 3-31) lost to East Christchurch Shirley 181-2 (T. Papps 106, M. Papps 52no; H Shaw 1-26) by 8 wickets.

In the second grade final the Lancaster Park-Woolston Dragons also successfully defended their title overcoming High School Old Boys in a close game by 3 wickets. Batting first HSOB could only manage 154. Mark Silcock was the chief destroyer claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs. He was well supported by Jason Maloney and Bruce Cameron. The chase was never easy with HSOB bowling equally as well as their competitors, however Peter Robinson batted well to ensure a LPW victory.

High School Old Boys 154 (J. Hantz 31, D. Strachan 21; J. Maloney 3-25, M. Silcock 3-24, B. Cameron 2-33) lost to Lancaster Park–Woolston Dragons 157-7 in 42 Overs (Cameron 20, P. Robinson 29no; D Eathorne 2-12, R. Strettell 2-36, D. Valentine 2-22) by three wickets.

Lancaster Park-Woolston collected a second trophy on finals day when the clubs 1st Grade Womens teams comprehensively won over their Marist counterparts. Batting first LPW amassed a large total of 246 for 9 wickets, with Clear White Fern Haidee Tiffen scoring 82. She was well supported by Joe Strachan (61). In reply Marist struggled early and the loss of Kate Pulford for one run was a damaiging blow. The Marist middle order did offer a chance of winning, but in the end could not keep up with the required run-rate and this lead to a number of rash shots.

LPW 245-9 (Tiffen 82, Strachan 61; E. McDonald 3-41) beat Marist 132 (A. Wilkins 38; Tiffen 4-21).

St Andrews College was the venue for the Christchurch First XI one-day competition final. The game between St Andrews and Christchurch Boys High also doubled as a Gillette cup fixture, with St Andrews winning the encounter and progressing through to play Marlborough Boys High School in the next round. Batting first St Andrews was in some degree of trouble through a fine bowling spell by Leighton Burtt who pick-up three early wickets, however St Andrews consolidated through the efforts of Doug Mathews (74), Brent Harris (40) and Brendan Lucas (40), to reach a total of 209 all out. In reply CBHS had a slow but steady start putting on 30 runs for the first wicket, however the spin bowlers from St Andrews had the CBHS batsmen in trouble once they joined the attack. The visiting team was all out for 105.

STAC 209 (Mathews 74, Harris 40, Lucas 40; Burtt 4-41) beat CBHS 105 (M. Goldstein 3-21, S. Dunnett 2-28)
