Durham sign Love to replace Katich as overseas professional CricInfo - 9 March 2001
Durham have signed Australian batsman Martin Love as their overseas player for the coming season. Love, 26, has signed a one-year contract to replace fellow Australian Simon Katich who will not be returning to Durham. Katich made the decision in order to be fully rested in time for the Ashes Tour should he be picked. Right-hander Love bats number three for Queensland. Durham coach Martyn Moxon said: "I've heard nothing but good reports about Martin and his career record in Australia is outstanding. By all accounts we have a very talented player coming to join us." Love has scored more than 6,000 first-class runs including 17 centuries in Australia at an average of 44, his highest score being 228. © CricInfo Ltd.
