Mashonaland Logan Cup report
John Ward - 3 March 2001

"It has been horrendous trying to get the teams together," said Mashonaland convener of selectors Max Ebrahim. One withdrawal after another made his job a nightmare and the selectors had to change the teams five or six times.

They eventually came up with the following line-ups for the first round of matches, due to start on Friday 15 February – if the weather permits. There has been a great deal of rain in Harare recently, but the matches should start on time if further rain holds off. There is the strong possibility, though, that the weather will intervene during the three days.

Mashonaland will play CFX Academy at Harare Sports Club, while Mashonaland A host Matabeleland at Alexandra Sports Club. The teams, as long as there are no further withdrawals, are as follows:

MASHONALAND MASHONALAND A
Gavin Rennie Trevor Gripper
Hamilton Masakadza Alester Maregwede
Trevor Madondo Dion Ebrahim
Andy Flower Greg Lamb
Craig Evans Dirk Viljoen
*Trevor Penney Andy Blignaut
Darlington Matambanadzo +Tatenda Taibu
Paul Strang Brian Bath
+Don Campbell *Everton Matambanadzo
Eddo Brandes David Mutendera
Norbert Manyande Brighton Watambwa
12th Man: 12th Man:
Lance Malloch-Brown Brad McCoun

The following players were unavailable:

Grant Flower – nagging finger injury
Bryan Strang – back injury
Brian Murphy – knee injury
Eian Marillier – broken toe
Alistair Campbell – resting
Stuart Carlisle – resting
Gus Mackay – unable to obtain leave from work

Murphy and Marillier may well miss the whole Logan Cup programme due to their injuries, but the others could return for the second round in two weeks' time.
