- It was the 1693rd ODI in cricket history.
- It was New Zealand's 375th and Pakistan's 489th match.
- It was the 56th match between these two sides. The record now reads: New Zealand 21, Pakistan 33, tied one and abandoned one.
- It was the 28th match between these two sides in New Zealand. The record now reads: New Zealand 15, Pakistan 11, tied one and abandoned one.
- Steve Dunne was officiating in his 97th match. With this he equalled Englishman David Shepherd's world record tally of most ODI appearances as umpire. The other umpire Doug Cowie was standing in his 56th match.
- Pakistan's total (285) was its highest against New Zealand in New Zealand and second highest against New Zealand in all matches-home or away. The highest still remains the 328 for 2 at Sharjah on 20-04-1994.
- Fleming on 13 completed 4000 runs in one-day internationals. He was playing his 152nd match and 146th innings. He became third New Zealander after Martin Crowe (4704 runs in 143 matches) and Nathan Astle (4371 runs in 133 matches) and 44th batsman overall to do so.
- Nathan Astle (122) scored his ninth hundred in his 133rd match. This was also his second hundred against Pakistan after 119 at Mohali on 09-05-1997.
- Astle's innings included 21 fours which is the maximum by a New Zealander. Ken Wadsworth against Australia at Christchurch on 31-03-1974 and Glenn Turner against East Africa at Birmingham on 07-06-1975 had hit 16 fours .
- Astle just failed to equal the ODI record of most fours in an innings which is still held by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar. Anwar had hit 22 fours during his innings of 194 against India at Chennai on 21-05-1997. Astle. however joined three batsmen - Viv Richards (v England at Manchester on 31-05-1984), Brian Lara (v Pakistan at Sharjah on 05-11-1993) and Sanath Jayasuriya (v India at Sharjah on 29-10-2000).
- 84 runs of Astle's innings came in boundaries which is a new record for New Zealand. Glenn Turner (2 sixes and 16 fours, v East Africa at Birmingham on 07-06-1975;) and Chris Harris (4 sixes and 13 fours v Australia at Chennai on 11-03-1996) had scored 76 runs in boundaries. Incidentally Saeed Anwar by hitting five sixes and 22 fours (making a total of 118 runs in boundaries) against India at Chennai on 21-05-1997 holds the world record in this category.
- The opening wicket partnership of 193 runs between Fleming and Astle is New Zealand's highest for any wicket in all ODIs. The previous highest partnership for New Zealand was worth 181 run between Adam Parore and Ken Rutherford for the third wicket against India at Baroda on 28-10-1994.Incidentally the previous highest first wicket partnership for New Zealand was 158 run between Martin Crowe and John Wright against Bangladesh at Sharjah on 28-04-1990.
- The partnership is also the highest for New Zealand for any wicket against Pakistan beating the 155 run-partnership between Astle and Bryan Young also for the first wicket at Mohali on 09-05-1997.
- It was also the highest partnership for first wicket against Pakistan in all matches bettering the 190 run-partnership between Gary Kirsten and Mike Rindel for South Africa at Johannesburg on 12-01-1995.
- New Zealand's score (290-6) is its highest against Pakistan-home or away. This obliterates the previous highest of 285 for seven at Mohali on 09-05-1997.
- The series win was New Zealand's first in a bilateral series against Pakistan since 1992-93 when it has beaten Pakistan 2-1 in a three match series.
- It was also New Zealand's first win in a bilateral series against any other since 1999-00 when it had routed West Indies 5-0 at home soil. New Zealand has since then lost to Australia (4-1), Zimbabwe (2-1),South Africa (5-0),Zimbabwe (2-1) and Sri Lanka (4-1) before this win came.
- Nathan Astle was winning his 16th Man of the Match award. It was also his fourth award in day-night matches which equals Stephen Fleming's tally for New Zealand.
