Patron’s Trophy Grade II: Bazid Khan hits magnificent 152* against Sui Gas on the first day of third round Mahmood Ahmad - 2 March 2001
Bazid Khan, the right-handed middle order batsman, hammered a classy 152 not out against Sui Gas to help Public Works Department (PWD) post a commanding 339 in their first innings on the first day of this three-day Patron's Trophy (Grade II) encounter at the Saga Cricket ground, Sialkot. This knock of Bazid has come after a magnificent 118 he got against Pakistan Education Board in his team's winning campaign of the second round. Bazid, the son of Majid Khan, the former captain of Pakistan team, has already made 377 runs in three incomplete matches to become the leading scorer so far of the tournament. Apart from two centuries, he has also got two fifties against his name. Sui Gas and PWD are the winners of their respective second round contests and they will be looking forward to maintain their winning streaks. Thus, it is hoped that this match is going to offer a lot in the coming days in terms of interest and excitement. In the other matches of the tournament, Pakistan Education Board were bundled for 195 in their first innings against Pakistan University Grants Commission. The PUGC were 123 for the loss of two wickets when stumps were drawn for the first day. In the third encounter of this round, Pakistan Army had reached 25 for one at the end of the first day after reducing Service Industries to 270. They were 207 for four at one stage thanks to a magnificent 105 from Maqsood Butt at the opener's slot. However, a bold fight back by the Army bowlers, saw them losing six wickets within a space of 63 runs.
