Selectors to meet soon after Indian team returns from Zimbabwe 29 June 2001
The Indian cricket selectors would meet in Mumbai to pick the team for the Sri Lanka tour starting from July 17 soon after the team returns from Zimbabwe on July 8. The BCCI executive secretary, Sharad Diwadkar, told PTI in Mumbai today that the Indian team which is playing in the tri-nation one-day series final on July 7 at Harare are expected to return on July 8. "The selectors want to finalise the team for Sri Lanka when both the captain (Sourav Ganguly) and the coach (John Wright are here and I think they (selectors) are planning to meet either on July 9 or 10," Diwadkar added. The Indians will leave for Colombo on July 15 and are scheduled to play a warm-up one day game the following day before the start of the tri-series from July 18 with New Zealand as the third team. The final is slated for August 4. The Indians will also play three Tests after a three-day game from August 8-10. The three Tests will be played at Galle (from August 13-17), Kandy (from August 21-25) and at the SSC, Colombo (from August 29-September 2) before they leave for home on September 3. © PTI
