Under 19s invited to July training camp 20 June 2001
The United Cricket Board will host an under 19 training camp from July 9-13 at the Plascon Academy in Johannesburg. The aim of the training camp is two-fold: to start the sifting process towards the team for the World Cup in New Zealand in early 2002 and also to start preparing the Under 19 players for that tournament. The camp, which will coincide with the Plascon Academy's Specialist Week in which most of South Africa's top coaches will attend and assist, will consist of net practices, matches and lectures. The following 25 players have been invited to take part in the camp: Schalk Burger (Boland), Waylin September (Boland), Ian Postman (Border), Brendan Reddy (Easterns), Chad Baxter (EP), Lazolo Dipha (EP), Bob Homani (EP), Mandilakhe Dipha (EP), Brent Kops (EP), Craig Thyssen (EP), Reese Briezies (FS), Riel de Kock (FS), Ryan McLaran (FS), Enoch Nkwe (Gauteng), Warren Swan (Gauteng), Patrick Ndopu (Griquas), Charl Pietersen (Griquas), AB de Villiers (Northerns), Francois du Plessis (Northerns), French Geldenhuys (Northerns), Hashim Amla (KZN), Russel Symcox (KZN), Keegan Nagam (KZN), Dave Jacobs (NW), JP Duminy (WP). Coaches: Hylton Ackerman, Lawrence Mahatlane. Selectors: Hugh Page (convenor), Anton Ferreira, Paki Xamiya, Peter Habberton, Saait Magiet, Fabian Gregory. This is not the final squad from which the World Cup team will be selected. These players were invited following nominations from the provinces, however, several other players were not available for the camp due to other commitments. The UCB Under 19 Competitions and the Coca-Cola Week will serve as further squad trials.
