- The 170 run-partnership between Trescothick and Owais Shah was the
highest for England for any wicket against Pakistan. The partnership
surpassed the 147 run-partnership between Mike Atherton and Robin
Smith for the first wicket at Karachi on 03-03-1996. This also
eclipsed the previous best for the fourth wicket for England against
Pakistan which was the 109 between Graham Gooch and David Capel at
Karachi on 20-11-1987.
- The Trescothick-Owais partnership was also the highest for England for
the fourth wicket against all countries beating the unbeaten 154 run-
partnership between Neil Fairbrother and Graeme Hick against Sri Lanka
at Adelaide on 23-01-1999.
- The victory margin of 2 runs was Pakistan's narrowest against England
in all ODIs. It had beaten England by three runs at this same ground

2 runs. However England's narrowest defeat still remains by one run by
South Africa at Cape Town on 26-01-2000.

defending a target. It was the fifth such occasion for Pakistan. The
other occasions being : v New Zealand at Faisalabad on 23-11-1984,v
Australia at Sydney on 20-02-1990, v West Indies at Sharjah on
21-10-1991 and v India at Sharjah on 23-10-1991.
- Marcus Trescothick was winning his second Man of the Match award. His
only other award had come against West Indies at Chester-le-Street on
