West Indies Under-19s continued their penchant for drama as they lost the second One-Day International against England by 13 runs.

The tourists were 228 all out as they gallantly chased England's 241. West Indies must find the defeat in Chelmsford particularly galling, as there were still 15 balls left.

Fittingly, for a Sunday, it was a man called Bishop who destroyed Young Windies' hope of sealing the three-match series after their thrilling two-wicket win in Hove Friday night.

England seamer Justin Bishop, replacing Nadeem Malik from Friday's match, claimed the best figures for an Under-19 game when he took seven for 41 in 8.3 overs.

The tourists had no answer to Bishop's accuracy. Once again it was left to classy opener Devon Smith to take the batting honours and give the Windies sight of victory. After his 75 in Hove, Smith, the most experienced member of the side, confirmed his class with an equally adept 66.

While he was batting, Windies looked in total command. Sadly, only Nevisian Tonito Willett (30) and Jamaican keeper Carlton Baugh, a run- a-ball 47 not out at the finish, offered any resistance.

At one stage the neat Baugh, who also had a good day with four catches, and Vincentian Kenroy Peters (27 off 33 balls) looked set to guide the team home. They put on 67 for the ninth wicket before Peters was excellently caught by Kadeer Ali at long-on. With his departure at 214 for nine, Windies' hope died.

Earlier, England batsmen Gary Pratt and Ian Bell had fun in the midday sun as West Indies' bowlers were made to toil in sunny, Caribbean-like conditions. Pratt and Bell, England's finest young batsmen, proved as much as they put on the highest second wicket stand in England's Under-19 history with partnership of 138.

Pratt made a marvellous 100 in just 109 minutes, which included 13 hard-hit boundaries. He found a more than useful ally in the shape of captain Ian Bell, whose 59 was made of 102 balls and contained seven boundaries.

The third and final match is today at the same venue.
