Somerset Seconds in strong position against Worcester
Richard Walsh - 19 July 2001

Somerset Seconds ended the third day of their Championship match against Worcestershire at the County Ground in Taunton in a strong postion.

At the start of play the Cidermen appeared very frail when they resumed at 6 for 2, but a solid third-wicket partnership of 188 between opener Chris Hunkin and Arul Suppiah saw them to within sight of the visitors total of 225.

Hunkin recorded his maiden second XI century before he was out for 103, while Suppiah, who was out for a second XI best of 97, was unlucky to fall just three runs short of his century.

The second major stand of the day came between Graham Rose and Wes Durston, who joined forces with the score on 297 for 6, and who were still there unbeaten at the close of play by which time Somerset had reached 438 for 6, a lead of 213.

At stumps Rose was 108 not out, his first century of the season for the second string, and Durston, who went to his 50 off 40 balls, was not out on 72.
