Nine-match one-day series to be played amongst Academies and Pakistan Juniors Pakistan Cricket Board - 19 July 2001
The PCB on Thursday announced a series of nine one day matches to be played among the National, Regional Academies and Pakistan juniors. The limited over matches are part of the training programme envisaged for the academies, as was the recent tour of Sri Lanka by the Pakistan "A" Team. The players at the Academies, launched in May last, are now in the final phase of their training/coaching during the current 12-week term. Besides getting intensive training and coaching in all aspects of the game, they have also been playing regular practice matches as part of their training schedule. The Inter Academy matches at the major centres, namely Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar and Karachi will not only provide useful experience to young players to test their newly acquired skills, but will also enable the coaches to evaluate their progress during the training sessions. For PCB these matches will also be useful to test the facilities and playing conditions at these venues well before the start of the hectic new season, especially at Multan, where the Multan Cricket Stadium has recently been developed. The matches, starting from July 21, 2001 at Rawalpindi between Rawalpindi and Peshawar Academies, will conclude with two matches between Pakistan Juniors and Karachi Academy on August 9 and 11 at National Stadium, Karachi.
The Schedule of the matches is attached.
