Notts appoint new development manager Media Release - 19 July 2001
Notts have appointed David Tighe as the new man responsible for promoting and developing recreational cricket in the county. David is currently cricket development officer for East Yorkshire but will take over from the club's highly-respected Cricket Development Manager, John Cope, on September 3. Said David: "I think John Cope will be a very hard act to follow and I do want to continue with the good work he has done at Trent Bridge. "I don't intend to wade in and change things for the sake of it because the department works very well and I believe that if it's not broken then there's no need to fix it. "But it's a great opportunity for me to join an excellent team and I hope to bring some new ideas and a fresh perspective to cricket development in Nottinghamshire." David will report to Mick Newell, the current Notts Second XI manager, who has been promoted to Cricket Operations Manager and will oversee all cricketing matters excluding the first team. John Cope, who retires at the end of the current season, was the first cricket development officer in the country when he was appointed in 1981. He has overseen a whole catalogue of successful schemes in the past 20 years.
