Shahid Afridi joins Leicestershire CCC Leicestershire CCC Media Release - 10 July 2001
Leicestershire County Cricket Club today confirmed the signing of Pakistan Test player Shahid Afridi as a replacement overseas player, following the unfortunate injury sustained by Daniel Marsh during the recent CricInfo Championship match against Surrey. The injury will rule him out for the remainder of the season. Shahid Afridi will join the playing staff immediately, and will be available until 6th September, when he returns to Pakistan to join the Pakistan Test squad. Jack Birkenshaw, Cricket Manager, commented: "Daniel Marsh was having a brilliant season with us on the field, and his value in the dressing room was well appreciated. We are sorry that his injury has ended his cricket for this summer, and our new overseas player has a difficult act to follow. "However, Shahid Afridi is a talented all-rounder who has already put in some spectacular performances in world one-day cricket. He is excited at the prospect of playing county cricket, and I am sure he will contribute with both bat and ball. "We welcome Shahid to Leicestershire County Cricket Club, and look forward to watching him perform and help bring us success." © Leicestershire CCC
