All Out Action Cricket underway
Canterbury Cricket Association - 31 January 2001

The first round of Canterbury Cricket's All Out Action Cricket started this week, with all teams enjoying the sunshine and format of the new game. The competition is played on Polo Grounds at Hagley Park, and is a fast and fun version of our national game. First round winners included Quick Fire, Merivale-Papanui and Red - who upset pre-competition favorites New Zealand Cricket. Brindley Baker from the Red Team was impressed with the competition. "Everyone enjoyed themselves" he said. "The games are fun for all abilities, and the best thing is it's over in 90 minutes or so".

The second round is on this Monday, and the competition will conclude in mid March with a finals night. Doug McSweeney from Canterbury Cricket is running the competition and said the first night was a real success. "Everyone had a bat, and most had a bowl ... the great thing about All Out Action Cricket is everybody has the opportunity to be involved". Currently there are six teams in the competition, with a second module starting at Ilam Fields in Mid February. "There has been further interest in the competition with another four teams set to join the Hagley module this Monday" Mr McSweeney said.
