Two EP sides may be in final of SA Country Districts Ronel Dawson - 30 January 2001
The result of today's game between Grahamstown and Free State in the SA Country Districts Cricket Competition will decide if we see two Eastern Province Country teams play each other in the final of this competition. This will be the first time in history that two Eastern Province teams face each other in this competition. Grahamstown played in the finals for the past seven years in this national cricket competition. Midlands and Grahamstown, two of the cricket teams of the Eastern Province, competing in the competition, will be in the SA Country Districts Cricket Competition Final in Pietersburg, if Grahamstown wins the game against Free State today. The competition started last Saturday and will be ending tomorrow. (Wednesday). This year a team from Zimbabwe is also competing in this competition. Every team has to play 3 League games and two Friendlies. The Midland team, consisting of players from the Cradock and Graaff-Reinet regions, that is one of the contesters in the final, defeated Boland, Griekwas, Gauteng, Border and Northerns in the league section and they will play Zimbabwe today and Easterns tomorrow for their friendly games. Grahamstown played against Kwazulu-Natal, Easterns, Northerns, and Zimbabwe and will play against Free state today. A win against Free State will ensure two Eastern Province teams in the final.
