Viljeon dents Australian Country's total

BOWRAL - Zimbabwe all-rounder Dirk Viljeon restricted an Australian Country XI to 197 in the one-day cricket match at picturesque Bradman Oval today.

Having won the toss, Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak dismissed Country XI opener Brian May (two) with his fifth ball of the innings on a seaming pitch.

Streak's impressive opening spell gave him 1-14 from six overs in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd.

Cade Brown and Anthony McQuire, both from the ACT, added 75 runs for the next wicket and a mid innings 53 from Queenslander David Todd pushed the total toward 200.

But left arm offspinner Viljeon took 4-0 in his last four overs to skittle the Country XI middle and lower order.

Bowling a tight line and length, the 23-year-old finished with 4-15 from 10 immaculate overs.

Zimbabwe plays Australia in the tri series at the MCG on Sunday and named a full strength team for today's game.

Streak finished with 1-17 from seven overs while medium pacer Gus Mackay, similar in appearance to former Australian paceman and Zimbabwe coach Carl Rackemann, took 3-39 from nine overs.

"The 49th over about to be bowled by Rackemann, um, Gus Mackay" said the ground announcer before Mackay's last over.

When the laughter faded, Mackay had Andrew Starr caught behind by wicket keeper Andy Flower and the Country XI innings was all but over.
