Sarwan The Bowler 16 January 2001
Man-of-the-match Ramnaresh Sarwan almost turned out to be an unlikely bowling hero as Guyana and the Leeward Islands played to a tense draw on Day 4 of their Busta Cup match at the Antigua Recreation Ground, yesterday. Sarwan exploited the 'rough' outside leg stump, with a mixture of leg-breaks and fast straight balls, as he grabbed career-best six for 62. The Leewards just managed to hang on for a draw reaching 244 for nine having been set 269 to win. Sarwan sent down 20 unchanged overs in a spell which began 35 minutes before tea and lasted until the end of the match as he justified captain Carl Hooper's faith in him. He began the Leewards demise as he took the crucial wicket of top-scorer Runako Morton bowled around his legs for a well-played 65 which came off 171 balls and included four fours. © The Brabados Nation
