Romesh Kaluwitharana was playing his 150th match. He became seventh Sri Lankan after Arjuna Ranatunga (269), Aravinda de Silva (268), Sanath Jayasuriya (221), Roshan Mahanama (213), Hasan Tillakaratne (181) and Muttiah Muralitharan (152) and 49th player overall to do so.
Jacques Kallis on 50, completed his 4000 runs in ODIs. He became fourth South African and 42nd batsman overall to do so. Others to aggregate 4000 runs or more in a career for South Africa are Hansie Cronje (5565 runs in 188 matches), Gary Kirsten (5511 in 148) and Jonty Rhodes (4458 in 191).
By taking 118 matches to complete his 4000 runs, Kallis became the second quickest among South Africans and 13th quickest in all to do so. South African record is still in the name of Gary Kirsten, who needed 110 matches to accomplish this feat. The ODI record is held by West Indian Viv Richards with 96 matches.
Kallis also completed the allround double of 4000 runs and 100 wickets - second South African and only the sixth allrounder in game's history to accomplish this feat. The other five players are Sanath Jayasuriya, Hansie Cronje, Viv Richards, Carl Hooper, and Steve Waugh.
Kallis is now the quickest in completing the double of 4000 runs and 100 wickets. He took 118 ODIs, all of 33 fewer than Jayasuriya, who achieved the double in his 151st match. Next in the order come Cronje (158 matches), Richards (162), Hooper (163) and Waugh (190). In batting, Viv Richards has the best ODI bating average in the group of six (6197 runs, average 49.98), followed by Kallis (4032 runs at 43.35). Bowling-wise, Kallis has the best average, with each wicket costing him 29.84 runs. The other five players bowling averages range from 33.62 to 35.28.
Sanath Jayasuriya has now aggregated 445 runs in 22 matches against South Africa - most by a Sri Lankan. He surpassed the tally of Arjuna Ranatunga who had aggregated 442 runs in 16 matches.
Mkhaya Ntini (5-37) became seventh South African (on 15th occasion) to take five wickets in a match. His previous best was 4 for 56 against Australia at Durban on 12-04-2000.
Ntini's figures are also the second best by a South African against Sri Lanka after Lance Klusener's six for 49 at Lahore on 06-11-1997.
The win was South Africa's ninth consecutive success, just one short of the national record ten in a row, set under Hansie Cronje in 1996. The streak currently includes the 5-0 series defeat of the touring New Zealanders at the end of last year. and the 4-0 lead over Sri Lanka.
The victory was South Africa's second largest against Sri Lanka after the 124 run win at Colombo RP on 02-09-1993.
Mkhaya Ntini was winning his maiden Man of the Match award.
