India to take part in U-17 Asia Cup 9 January 2001
India has agreed to send its Under-17 cricket team to Dhaka for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournament which starts there from Feb 15. India had refused to send its team to Pakistan for a similar tournament last year claiming it had no under-17 cricket structure. Zakir Hussain Syed, secretary of the ACC, said India has confirmed its participation and would be one of the fancied team along side Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka will defend the title they won after defeating Pakistan last July. Zakir said after the conclusion of the ACC-International Cricket Council (ICC) coordination committee meeting in Islamabad on Monday that an umpiring seminar will be held at the same venue between March 9 and 26. Mahboob Shah, former Test umpire, will be the coordinator of the seminar.
