Training camp for NZ-bound squad from 20th 8 January 2001
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took a somersault when it decided to organize a training camp for the New Zealand-bound squad. A high ranking official of the PCB said the camp would be organized at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from Jan 20. The PCB had previously decided to abort the camp proposal and instead asked the players to appear in the domestic tournaments to prove their form and fitness. While the penultimate round matches of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy begin from Monday, the Patron's Trophy resumes from Jan 26. The national selection committee had also chalked out its strategy of visiting the stadia to monitor the performances of some key players including Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Mushtaq Ahmad. Only paceman Shoaib Akhtar has been singled out in the fresh decision when he was told to play at least one first-class match to show his fitness.
