Mumbai score 278/8 against Delhi Staff Reporter - 6 January 2001
Mumbai did well in scoring 278 for eight off 115 overs on the opening day of the Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 quarterfinal against Delhi at the East Calcutta District Sports Council ground in Calcutta. Opting to bat, Mumbai lost Swapnoj Thakur (2), caught by P Singh off Kuldeep Rawat with the score on 10. But R Kanojia (36) joined the other opener S Kukreja (42) and the two added 78 runs for the second wicket. Kukreja was the next to be dismissed caught by A Nag off P Singh. Kanojia followed him soon after at the score of 100. Then S Bhaye (49) and H Shah (24) took the score to 161. Thereafter, P Mayekar held the innings together as wickets kept falling at the other end. Mayekar remained unbeaten at stumps on 56. In his 109-minute stay at the crease so far, Mayekar has faced 105 balls and hit nine fours and one six. © CricInfo
